All attention on KryKey

• So now lets go to the business part…..The year that Krykey has been founded was?

Initial design was December 2006, the development (in Hyderabad, India) of version 1.0 (Alpha) started March 2008 and was completed January  2009 and was many months overdue because of problems with the development team and the company being dealt with. Version 2.0 (Beta) development (Sofia, Bulgaria) began May 2009 and was completed September 2009. Although no initial problems with company that was hired to develop the new version, they ended up blackmailing to get more money and inserted a ‘kill’ code into the system so if extra payments were not paid then they would shut off the system. April 2010 saw development move back to the USA and the existing code was decompiled and then rewritten to end the blackmailing by the Bulgarian company. New designs were completed in April 2010 for the next Version 3.0 (Production) and given to the team now in the USA which consisted of people well known to the founder of KryKey. Expected finish and live date for version 3.0 is September 2010.

• Why did you create Krykey?

A web site was being hosted and maintained for a high school in Australia and when the founder went there we had a radio station running and wanted to recreate it, but he didn’t want to have to be the only DJ and access was required by others and after research there was no software like it. So the designs were done from this premise.

• Tell us more about your business (Krykey.com)

KryKey Internet Radio is a unique service that offers anyone in the world the opportunity to create a web based radio station and broadcast to the world with little knowledge required, no costs. It is radio that has been democratized. The other side is of course for anyone can listen to any radio station from all parts of the world offering a variety of content.

• Whats the aim of Krykey? Whats are your achievements?

The next version of KryKey Internet Radio will offer more options to add and broadcast content via other sources like SoundCloud, You Tube, etc. People will be able to listen via any mobile phone (Android, Web OS, Win Mobile 7) or gaming console (X-Box 360, PS3, WII). Video broadcasting will be added as well. Global radio stations being created and used by anyone in the world who has an internet connection.

• Do you thing Krykey is successful as a business?

Currently KryKey Internet Radio has no revenue and costs are increasing as it grows (more servers and bandwidth), but this is being addressed in the next few weeks with the introduction of display adverts on all main pages, on all radio pages, and the insertion of audio adverts on all radio stations (please note although we say all, it will depend on the coverage by our advertising partner). A buy now button will also be added to the player so listeners can click this button and then buy the track off Amazon. All revenue from advertising and the purchase of songs from each radio station will be shared with the radio station owner (this sharing of revenue will be after all costs are subtracted including royalty costs where required).

• Is Krykey a profitable business?

Currently no. Revenue model about to be introduced as per above.

• How much are the costs of your business?

Costs associated with KryKey Internet Radio currently are Servers, Bandwidth, and Development.We are currently looking for investors to help in this process.

• Do you think the competition between sites like krykey is huge?

KryKey Internet Radio is unlike sites like Spotify, Last.FM, Pandora – in fact these sites are what we call “Internet Jukeboxes” and not radios. KryKey Internet Radio sites in a position outside these current sites. There are some sites that have some of the features of KryKey Internet Radio but we have had some of our customers leave to use them but they have all come back saying KryKey is the best. As we will continue to add and develop new features, plus with our revenue sharing model, KryKey Internet Radio will be a leader in this area for the foreseeable future.

• We know that at the beginning of  September 2009 Krykey has been hacked. What were your reactions as the owner of the site?

We experienced a DDoS attack which was fixed by adding more hardware. It happens and there seems to be no reason why and it was done for fun. Some people are just sad.

• What was the first thing that you did about it?

We added more equipment like Firewall components and switches to look at the traffic and only let in what is legitimate traffic.

• At that time , how much did you pay as a company to fix and replace all the data that has been lost?

No data was lost and I did the work.

• For how long Krykey remained close after the hacking?

We fixed the problem within 14 days. The delay was getting the equipment and the cost.

• Do you think that the damage ,made krykey weaker as a company?

No, Twitter had the same problem a few months ago and it cost them $12M to fix, Google and other sites have all been attacked in this way.

• What the next stage of development for Krykey? Tell as more about the future features

Here is some but not all of what is coming next : be able to record/playback/share shows, listen via mobile phones, listen via gaming consoles, play music and other content from outside sources, new site design, new player with integrated chatroom and able to pop-out of page, video broadcast, more components to radio pages like Twitter box Facebook fan page box etc – AND MUCH MUCH MORE!

KryKey will continue to change and get better as more features are added, opinions and feedback is taken from users, and new ideas are implemented. By the end of 2010 KryKey will not only be able to play music, podcasts, adverts, promos, news, but also content from sources such as SoundCloud and You Tube (and others), and video streaming will also be a part of each radio station to play making it almost like MTV was in the beginning. A hybrid Radio/TV station that can be accessed on any device from computers, to mobile phones to gaming consoles will make KryKey one of the most unique services available across the planet giving anyone anywhere the ability to broadcast to the world. Truly democratization of radio and tv will be realized.
